As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • All submissions must meet the following requirements.

    • The submission is a work of philosophy of interest either to a general audience or to a specialist in ethics, social, political, or legal philosophy, or cognate fields.

    • The submission aspires to the highest standards of clarity and insightfulness of argument, uses words with economy, and reflects the appropriate standards for civil and respectful discourse.

    • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

    • The submission has not been previously published. JESP will consider articles that are simultaneously under submission elsewhere, so long as the editors are informed at the time of submission, but JESP will only publish original material that has not appeared elsewhere, in whole or in part.

All submitting authors will be asked to agree to our license agreement.

Please prepare your paper for blind review by removing all self-references from the text and all author information from the metadata of the submitted file.  JESP adheres to the highest standards of blind review, and operates as a service to the public; time spent correcting lapses in blind review is time that we cannot spend more carefully evaluating arguments.  Bear in mind that properly blinded papers should not use parochial "local color" examples that help to place the likely author any more than they should make explicit reference to the author.

JESP allows submissions following any citation format, so long as references are consistent and easy to follow.

Authors submitting a discussion note to JESP should also check our policies for discussion notes here.
